We’re the little airport that could. After years of being the region’s best kept secret, the completion of the runway extension project has got the community talking about the exciting possibilities that lie ahead in 2017 and beyond.

In 2016, we completed our Runway Expansion project that involved a 2000 ft. extension of the main runway (16-34) for a total runway length of 7500 ft. With the runway extension complete the airport is now able to accommodate larger aircraft which means increased opportunities for advanced tourism, economic power, attracting new commercial business and services to the area and increased quality of life for Central Alberta residents. Additionally, rehabilitation and expansion work was completed on Apron 7 to open up additional land for future commercial business development.

The engineering and design work for the project began in early 2015, followed by the announcement in October 2015 that the expansion had been approved thanks to funding from the Province of AB, The City of Red Deer and Red Deer County. Construction on the project was complete in October of 2016, with final Transport Canada inspections and approvals occurring in November. Our new and improved runway officially opened for business at the end of 2016 with a Grand Opening event to follow this Spring.
